Swirly scribble

decorative banner1, Q. Cassetti, 2011, vectorCruising. The work is coming and I seem to be keeping more on top of it versus swamped. Moved the big rocks before Sagamore so the leaves that are landing (the light projects that pile up) and I am able to move them without the mental burden that there were significant things that needed to be done. I have the holiday card on my desktop and am working away with lines/vectors and the wonderful live paint feature which is perfection for this project. I had to get my how to book out and between the switching of my glasses and the youtube videos—I think have a handle on this.

I am enjoying this work with images and logotypes. I am working on a logotype for a local distillery—and have been revelling in the shapes, the images, the barley stems and a scandia chic typography which is a real break with the woodtype/ antique image that this already branded farm has. It was fun to let it flow…and just to tweak and tune. All of this has helped me (along with two days of sleeping and stupidity) to really look at my work and how I spend my 40 hrs (+) a week. if I could squeeze more illustration and logo design (illustration that you can charge for)—it would really balance out the work/happiness factor more. If I took the logos and promoted them like I am promoting illustration, would I get a little more action? If I called the big logo shops in NYC and suggested I act as a stringer for them….would there be a bit more action? if I participated more actively in the world of logotypes online…would there be a bit more action?

The big fat pen is poised to move today on some swirly scribble.  Lets see what happens.

quick now!

New logo for the Stonecat Cafe...now calling themselves outside the cafe as Stonecat.
Am working on some inexpensive labelling (designed specifically for black and white printer home technology with khaki/kraft paper as an accent. They are coming out with some very original sausages created by genius Scott Signori along with some very imaginative other food carry out, take home or give to...from the region. Scott and Jess were very brave to ask me to help them with the sausages...and I took the ball a bit further than they had brought to me...and they are kindly letting me pursue this creative approach. Its looking very good and fresh...Now, I need to slug away on their website layout.

Kubb: The local game of champions
Kubb (pronounced /kʉb/ in Swedish or /kub/ in Gutnish) is a lawn game where the object is to knock over wooden blocks by throwing wooden sticks at them.

Kubb can be simply described as a combination of bowling and horseshoes. Today's version originated on Gotland island, Sweden.

Rules vary from country to country and from region to region, but the ultimate object of the game is to knock the "King" over, before your opponent does. This, combined with the fact that there is a certain level of strategy that can be used by players, has led some players and kubb fans to nickname the game "Viking Chess." However, unlike chess, if a player or team knocks over the king before achieving their objectives, that player/team immediately loses the game. Some games have been known to last for hours.

The game can be played on a variety of surfaces such as sand, concrete, grass, or even ice.

Kubb is a good game for children (under supervision), although in such cases, the 8-meter pitch length (specified in some instructions), ought to be shortened.

Also, Just did the Kubb Collective mark. Here it is on a bunch of things at Zazzle. The Kubb Collective is a group of fun people here in the Tburg area that gather regardless of weather to play competitive Kubb--with people paying in per game and the proceeds given to charity.

I am a bit frustrated (but without frustration, growth will not happen) with my portrait project at Hartford. I am not going to get into it...but as soon as something is finalized, I will post. Urg.

The thesis is at Staples today for binding. Done.

We are getting amazing rain (looks like hail!) with lightening and a downpour. Should disconnect. More later.

Satan in the news

Sometimes the media yields a pearl up on these fallow shores. NPR reported that Procter and Gamble won a lawsuit against some Amway dealers who claimed the P&G logo was satanic--

CINCINNATI: The world's largest consumer products company, Procter & Gamble Co., has won a jury award of $19.25 million (€14.5 million) in a civil lawsuit against four former Amway distributors accused of spreading false rumors linking the company to Satanism.

more on this story from the International Herald Tribune>>
The story details the case including "that Amway Corp. distributors revived those rumors in 1995, using a voice mail system to tell thousands of customers that part of Procter & Gamble profits went to Satanic cults". Don't you love it?
There were a bunch of Urban Legends on this from Snopes>>
Wikipedia details the legend>>

The company received unwanted media publicity in the 1980s when an urban legend spread that their previous corporate logo was a satanic symbol. The accusation is based on a particular passage in the Bible, specifically Revelation 12:1, which states: "And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars." Since P&G's logo consists of a man's face on a moon surrounded by thirteen stars, some have claimed that the logo is a mockery of the heavenly symbol alluded to in the aforementioned verse, and hence the logo is Satanic. Where the beard meets the surrounding circle, a mirror image of 666 can be seen when viewed from inside the logo, and this has been interpreted as the reflected number of the beast, again linked to Satanism. Also, there are two horns like a lamb that are said to represent the false prophet. These interpretations have been denied by company officials, and no evidence linking the company to the Church of Satan or any other occult organization has ever been presented.

As a logo designer...wow. I need to get to work embedding good stuff into my logos...intentionally.

I need to get to work on such important stuff!
